S.O.S. Island News and Information

S.O.S. Island was announced on December 21, 2011 by Poptropica creator Captain Crawfish. Its announce, right before the holidays, was rather early due to the fact that Ghost Story island had just been released to members-only. Later on, Captain Crawfish revealed more news about the island – and perhaps the reason that it didn’t come with a mini-game – it will have its very own after-math adventure that will be exclusive to only members of the game.

On January 20, 2012, Captain Crawfish finally revealed the launch date of the island (the date in which the island will be released to members-only) as Thursday January 26, 2012.

Poptropica S.O.S. Island Written Walkthrough

You’ll start the new island by dropping out of the Poptropica blimp and you’ll want to walk over to your left and speak to the first mate of the cruise ship that is sinking. Your goal is to save all of the people in danger on the sinking ship and you’ll receive the S.O.S. medallion for your troubles.

Entering the ship

After you speak to the first mate, head to the left toward the ship and jump up to where the entrance is. Click on the entrance, and you’ll be told that it’s blocked and your screen will pan up to a giant boulder above. Run to your right and jump off of the ship into the water. Swim to the left, along the side of the ship until you see the first life boat in the water. Jump into the life boat and then continue to use the damaged life boats to get aboard the ship. From there, run to your right, up the mountain of ice, up another level, and you’ll be behind the boulder. Push the boulder off of the deck so it drops onto the ice blocking the entrance to the ship!

Saving the first Poptropican

Jump down off the ledge and enter the ship. Climb the stairs and go enter the bridge through the left door. Head to your left and to the top of the bridge and speak with the captain. He’ll tell you that his archenemy, a whale, damaged the ship and caused it to sink! Once he tells you he’s turned on the emergency door controls, walk to the left and turn the knob from red to green on the emergency console. Exit the bridge through the way you came, go down the stairs and go left in the hallway until your reach door number 6. Click on the crying child to break him free from the debris on his leg and then talk to him to save him and bring him to the lifeguard island. Take the Whale Song Gadget that he offers you, you’ll need it later.

Saving Starbuck, the Cruise Director

Oh no! The ship has started sinking further, you’d better hurry! Run left and go back to the cruise ship and enter through the same entrance. Head back to the bridge and speak with the Captain. He’ll tell you that your next mission is to save Starbuck, the Cruise Director, who is trapped in the Ballroom. Head back into the hallway and move the box that’s in front of the ballroom so you can enter through the door.

You’ll see Starbuck hanging from the chandelier and she can’t swim! Make your way down the staircase and grab the bottle of champagne floating in the water. Swim over to the right, past the chandelier and stand on the platform. Click the bottle at the bottom of your screen to activate the champagne bottle. Click and hold the button down, while you aim at the crack in the glass on the right. Let go of the mouse button when the power is all the way to green. The cork will shoot across and break the glass, filling the room with more water and raise the orange life preserver for Starbuck to land on. Jump over to her right side and push Starbuck to the left where the stairs are. Use the bottle again, and point the cork at the crack in the glass right above you. The glass will break and the water level will rise, allowing you to push Starbuck into the doorway so you can save her!

Saving the Engineer

Yikes! The ship is straight up and down and sinking even further. There’s not much time left to save the rest of the survivors! Head back to the ship and swim to the second left ring and get on top of it. Jump to the pile of ice to the right. Climb the pile and jump onto the satellite dish and continue to your left as you climb the ship and jump from platform to platform. You’ll then need to jump to the first rope and climb to the top. Then, fall to your right and grab the second rope and climb to the top. Fall again to your right and use the umbrellas to bounce up and land on a platform. Continue up and to the left on the various platforms and jump into the hole at the top/back of the ship.

You’ll fall into the water, and you’ll need to watch your oxygen meter at all times. You’ll notice big bubbles or groups of small bubbles while you’re under water — you can use those to breathe and increase your oxygen level if you can’t make it to the top. Click the red gear to open the pipe and fill the space with more water, making the floating box rise so you can enter the ballroom again. Swim to the top quickly and be careful to avoid the jellyfish. Make your way across to the right and climb onto the chandelier so you can jump up to the next level. You’ll need to continue jumping up and making your way all the way to the left. Jump up past the bar to the next level and you have a water puzzle to solve.

  1. Switch the top arrow (highest one in the puzzle) to the the right.
  2. Switch the other three arrows pictured on the right.
  3. Switch the main arrow to start the water going.

The water will make its way through the pipes and will cause the bulb at the top to burst so you can jump up through the opening. Make your way through this room to the upper-right corner. You’ll see the engineer stuck behind a steam pipe, and there’s no way for either of you to get through it. The engineer tells you that you must help reduce the pressure, but you’ll have to be quick!

The engineer will turn a valve to reduce the pressure and the water will flow through the pipe. Make your way to the left as quickly as possible and turn the green valve before the water reaches it. Head back to the engineer who will congratulate you for doing it, and tell you that there’s 3 more valve groups that you’ll have to turn by yourself. Drop down to the bottom right and you’ll see the orange valve. Twist the valve and head back up and to the left for the matching valve, which is below the first green one that you had to turn. From there, drop down to your lower right and you’ll find the red valve. Twist it and head back to the same area, where the matching valve is just below the orange one. Finally, the blue valve is on the upper right, on a platform just below the engineer. Twist the blue valve and head back to the same area to turn the final matching valve. Jump all the way back up to the upper-right and over to the engineer to save them. Take the Pipe Wrench when she offers it to you.

Saving the Chef

No! The ship has sunk almost all the way, there’s only a bit left sticking out and there’s still more people to save inside! Head back to the ship. Jump on to the life ring and then jump onto the platform with the umbrella. Use the umbrella to bounce over to the rope and climb the rope to step to the open window platform. Jump over to the right and continue up to the top/back of the ship. Go left and enter the hole in the back of the ship again.

You’ll fall down and you’ll want to jump up the platforms in the center — but watch out for the steam! Push the junk pile to the right and fall all the way down until you hit the water. You’ll see the propeller fall on the left. Swim left and get to the propeller so you can push it into the hole in the bottom. Follow the propeller down the hole. Swim to your right and exit through the door. Swim all the way to the top, jump onto the box, then jump on the broken lights all the way to the top and enter through the small restaurant elevator opening. Shimmy down the rope and enter the freezer. Quickly break the boxes and push the frozen chef out of the freezer.

Continue pushing the chef over to the right and slowly push him off the edge and drop down a level. Continue pushing him slowly off of each ledge as you make your way down. When he lands on a box, push the box off the ledge first, then the chef, so you can prevent him from getting stuck in the holes. After you’ve dropped him 4 times, you’ll see a double-drop-off on the left. Don’t push the box or the chef! Head over to the right and fall down. Jump over to the pipe on the left and climb down to the level with the lettuce box. Push the lettuce box into the hole on the left. Climb the pipe again to the level with the box and push it into the hole also. Jump back up to the level with the Chef. Push the box to the right so that it doesn’t drop down with the Chef. Then, push the Chef Block to the left, off of both ledges. Push the chef to the left and in front of the oven. You will save the chef.

One more to save, the Captain!

Now that everyone’s off the ship, you can save the captain… but now the ship has flipped upside-down! Is he still okay? Head back to the ship and enter through the hole just to the left of the first life ring. Swim down as far as you can, taking breaks at air bubbles. Be careful to avoid the snapping fish while making your way to the upper left. You’ll be in the Ballroom again, and you need to make your way to the upper-left of the Ballroom. Swim slowly between the jets of water and avoid the jellyfish.

Swim over to the right and go through the vent. In the new room, swim and work your way to the left. Go left and then drop down to talk to the captain. The captain fears the worst and finally admits that the whale was not the cause of the ship sinking! The captain wasn’t being careful and was chasing down the whale and ended up crashing into an iceberg. Open up your items and use the Whale Song machine, use the Pipe Wrench to turn the machine to the Grey Sperm Whale. The captain’s archenemy will come and save you both, taking you into his mouth and spitting you out on the Lifeguard Island!

The captain will thank you for saving everyone and apologize for lying about why the ship crashed. He’ll award you with the Captain’s Medallion for S.O.S. Island.

Poptropica Member Bonus Quest Walkthrough

The bonus quest starts with the ship going completely underwater and creating an environmental hazard by spewing oil. We can’t have an environmental disaster on our hands, so it’s up to you to fix it! The Poptropicans give you a submarine and a hyperbaric suit so you can hold your breath much longer while you repair all of the oil leaks. There are a total of 11 leaks for you to fix!

Use the submarine to enter the hole near the top of the ship. In the first room, there are 2 leaks for you to fix. You can see the oil leaks, as they are dark black, cloudy areas in the water. Swim to the middle of the black cloud and continually click your mouse to repair the leaks. The next room is the ballroom, which also has 2 leaks to fix. Once you’ve fixed those, exit through the vent at the top left. Swim to the left and fix the first leak in the Hallway. Swim all the way to the right and fix the second leak in the Hallway. Swim to your left and enter the vent to enter the Galley. There are 3 leaks to fix in the galley. Once you’ve fixed all of them, swim to the left and fix the final 2 leaks in the last room. You’re all done! Congratulations, you’ve beaten 100% of S.O.S. Island, including the bonus quest!

S.O.S. Island Secrets

You can click the little tiki hulu dancer in the window and make her dance. You can also click all the switches and the captain will tell you to be careful! You can click the model of the Titanic and it will spout smoke. If you click the battleship model, it will move its guns. Clicking the Viking ship will move its oars. If you want to replay SOS Island, there’s a cheat to make it much easier the second time around if you’re a paying member of Poptropica! You’ll still have the Deep-Sea Diving Suit from the Bonus Quest, so you can use it in the swimming parts to stay underwater longer!
