Ghost Story Island Written Walkthrough
Hemlock Harbor – Main St
You’ll drop out of the blimp and land on Main Street in Hemlock Harbor. Hemlock Harbor is a spooky place that is well-known for ghost sightings and spirits. If you walk to the left and click on the tourist Poptropican with the camera, he’ll tell you that this is the most haunted town in New England. Let’s get started and get that medal!
Run to your right and enter the Hemlock Herald. The newspaper editor at the printing press will offer you $50 for every piece of hard evidence you bring him to show his readers that the hauntings are real. Exit the HehemlockHerald and head to your left, just past the Gingerbread House and talk to the Poptropican with the salt shaker. He’ll mention a few things about the salt and give you a salt shaker.
Continue to your left into the Foggy Forest until you get to the Cemetery Gate. A Poptropican will appear out of the gates and offer to be your guide to help you find ghosts. Just as he finishes talking to you, the fog will diminish and the Poptropican will run away, afraid of getting into trouble. On his way out, he drops a pamphlet. The Magistrate of Hemlock Harbor will approach from the right and tell you that Hemlock Harbor used to be a peaceful town before the Ghost Hunting started and suggests that you find lodging for the night if you have no business in the woods. Head to the left of the cemetery entrance and talk to the sad Poptropican who is trying to find where his Uncle Silas Moon is buried in the cemetery. He will tell you that the location is recorded in the town archives at the Hemlock herald and, if you help him, you can stay in his room for the night at the Hemlock Inn. Head to your right until you get to the Hemlock Herald, and enter the building.
Hemlock Herald – Finding Silas Moon
Head right and speak with the editor again. He will ask if you’re back with evidence and will unlock the Archives for you. Enter the archives and head down the stairs. Walk to your right and click on the lighter-colored box labeled “Cemetery Plots”. Search through the binder to find where Silas Moon is buried by flipping the page 3 times. You will automatically highlight the location of Silas Moon in Lot C, Plot 84. Head out of the archives and back to the cemetery and tell the Poptropican where his Dear Uncle is buried. He will give you a key to Room B at the Hemlock Inn. Head to your right out of Foggy Forest, through Main Street and keep going until you reach the Inn.
The Hemlock Inn
Enter the Inn, and the Innkeeper will approach you and say she is off to meet her husband to make preparations for the night, leaving you in the lobby of the Inn. Head left and up the stairs to the second floor. Your room is the second door, 2B. Go inside the room, head left and click on the bed to go to sleep. While you are sleeping, you will see all kinds of crazy things happening, and you will wake up to investigate. Walk to the right and click on the wardrobe next to the chair. The Innkeeper and her husband will jump out of the wardrobes and tell you that they tried to trick you, but they tell you if you want to see the woman in the window, play her favorite song on the violin. Exit your room, go downstairs and to the right and pick up the violin resting on the bookcase to get the Violin and Music. Exit the Inn.
The Lady in the Window
Run to the right talk to the man camping on the shoreline and the Magistrate will come and take him away. Take his binoculars when he’s gone, then use the violin that will play a song when you slide the bow back and forth across the strings. Once you play the whole song, something will appear in the top window of the house, looking like a ghost. Use the binoculars you just took from the campsite and look up at the top of the abandoned house and you will see what looks like a ghost in the window. She is beckoning you to come!
Jump on top of the tent and use it to bounce up on top of the cliff, then jump again to get up to the Abandoned House. Click on the front door of the abandoned house, and then click the cellar doors to the right of the front door and enter the cellar. Head down the staircase and then try to head up the stairs on the left — the staircase will break while you’re on it! Luckily you land safely, so jump up on the boxes to the left and push the top box to the left. Push the tall box to the right of the deer, just past the part of the staircase that didn’t break. Jump on the small ledge and then jump on top of the box.
Then jump left onto the part of the staircase that didn’t break and climb up. Head to your right and up the large staircase and enter through the door.
Inside the Abandoned House
Head to the right and use the telescope to look out the window. Use the slider on the ring of the telescope to make it in focus, then look back and forth. Here comes the scariest part of Ghost Story Island — “Looking for someone?”!!! A girl named Fiona comes up behind you and tells you that she isn’t a ghost, but has unfinished business in town. She informs you that if you’re looking for spirits, head to the Bakery and speak to Jane the baker. Exit the house and head to the bakery on Main St.
The Gingerbread House
Enter the gingerbread house and talk to Jane, telling her “Fiona Sent Me”. She will press a button, making the counter disappear, showing you ghost-tracking gadgetry! Take all of the items she gives you.
- Thermal Scanner to see invisible spirits
- EMF detector lets you know when a spirit is near
- Thermometer can be left on a wall and alert you of a sudden temperature drop from a spirit
- Camera can capture spirits invisible to naked eye
She also tells you to take hot cross buns before you go, make sure to grab them on your way out — you’ll need them for Hemlock Prison!
Navigating The Cemetery
Head to your left through the Foggy Forest and enter the Cemetery Gate. Follow this route to get to gate “A”:

The Cloaked Spirit
Run to your right and up the hill, and use the stones to get yourself on top of the ridge where the grave with the flowers is. Go to your right and the Poptropican will tell you about the cloaked spirit. The spirit will walk by with a rose and your camera will flash on the bottom left. Click the camera and then select it from your inventory to use it. Look to the left and snap the picture of the spirit at the grave. You now have evidence of the spirit, and can examine the picture for a close-up. Head back into the cemetery gate and go in. Click “H” and exit the cemetery.
Showing the Evidence
Head right to Main St and enter the Hemlock Herald. The editor tells you that you’d better have proof because he’s putting finishing touches on his issue. Open your inventory and show him the photo and he’ll give you $50, telling you to put it somewhere safe. Exit the Hemlock Herald and head left into the bank.
The teller will tell you that it’s getting late and they’re closing the bank, so head to the right and downstairs to the bank vault. Talk to the vault keeper and then pull out the $50 from your inventory. He will take you into the vault and dog will go crazy, while your thermal scanner will show up on the bottom-left. Click it and use the thermal scanner and you will see a cold area below the dog, click on the blue shape and you will wonder who it is. The vault keeper will tell you to get on your way.
Head out of the bank and to your right, where everyone is talking about the newspaper. Click the stack of newspapers to see your picture in the Hemlock Herald and the magistrate will come and say it isn’t proof, it’s another hoax and sends everyone home. He tells you he’s watching you.
You will see a cut-scene of a boat coming ashore in Hemlock Dwellings near the campsite. Head right to where the boat came ashore. Talk to the captain of the boat who asks if there are any rooms because he’s tired. Give him your room key so he can rest, and he’ll let you use his boat. Get in the boat and head straight up and slightly right to find a dock. This is the Hemlock Prison. Head to your right and up the stairs to enter the Prison.
Your EMF detector will blink in the lower left. Click it and use your EMF detector to keep an eye out for ghosts. Head right and use the elevator at the end of the hallway, and go down to Floor H. Run to your right and click on the cell just before the “Warden’s Office”. It will say “Have you returned?” on the wall. Enter the warden’s office and walk over to the armchair, which is moving. If you use your thermal scanner, you will see something in it. Use the hot cross buns in your inventory and set them next to the tea on the small table. The warden will appear after eating the hot cross buns and tell you about prisoner #24601′s escape, who was in block D, cell 8. Leave the warden’s office and head back into the elevator to floor D.
Cell 8, Block D
Run to your right and click the 4th cell (cell #8) and click on the book on the floor once you’re inside the cell. Walk to your right and you will get locked in the cell. Push the bed to the right to reveal a hole in the cell, and enter the hole. Bring up your thermal scanner when it starts blinking, and look all the way to the top right to see where the spirit is. Run to the right and pick up the sardines and continue to where you saw the spirit. Grab the pickaxe on the left side and jump up one more level. Pick up the note to prisoner 24601. Speak to the prisoner who tells you a story about Valiant in the bank vault. Read the note and then leave the tunnel. Use the pickaxe in the cell and you will make your way out. Head to the elevator and go to Section A to exit the prison
Get back in the boat and head down and left to the lighthouse. Jump up to the lighthouse and get the Torch. Enter the lighthouse, use your torch and get it lit so you can see. Climb the staircase and take it slow, as the wind comes every 10 seconds or so, you’ll need be ready to duck all the time. This might take a few tries. Once you’re up the stairs, the thermometer will blink. Click and use it on the wall. Head to your right and bounce off of the trampoline to get to the next level and click “Exit”. Head to the right and click on the light. Jump down off of the lighthouse platform and go back to your boat. Get in the boat and try to head back to the main Hemlock Island where you started.
Back to the Lighthouse
When you dock back at the island, your remote temperature sensor will go off. Head back to the lighthouse and you will see a torch floating up the stairs. Follow it, and when you get to the top, you’ll see a ghost next to the thermometer. Click on the spirit and he will tell you about a doomed ship that departed and he fell asleep instead of using the light and the boat crashed. He will tell you to travel North past the rocks to examine the shipwreck.
Head North from the lighthouse and you will see a spotlight on the rocks. Examine the wreckage, checking a few different places and you’ll find a locket. Examine the locket to see that it contains a note from Fiona, the woman in the Abandoned House! This is all starting to come together! Head South and dock back at the Hemlock Island.
Returning the Locket to Fiona
Head back up to the Abandoned Mansion above the campsite. Go up to the bedroom and hand the locket and note to Fiona. She will get very upset — poor girl!! She will mention something about dropping Henry’s ring at the bottom of the fountain and run away, dropping a scrapbook on the ground on her way out. Pick up the scrapbook and examine it… Hmmm, some of these Poptropicans look familiar, don’t they?
Head out of the house and left to the fountain between the Hemlock Herald and the Bank. Use the sardines in your inventory to make the seagull leave the fountain. Then, jump up to her nest and examine it to find a shiny ring. Examine the ring and you’ll see an engraving. There must be someone who can tell you about it, so head left to the Foggy Forest and into the Cemetery Gate!
Cemetery Lot B – The Engraver
To get to Cemetery Lot B, click on the “A” on the map and then follow these steps:
- Turn right and you will be at the “B” gate.
Exit the gate and you can speak with the eccentric Poptropican who can hear the Ghosts whispering. It’s not necessary, but he’s a funny little guy that you might enjoy talking to. Scroll down to the bottom to see a Poptropica Secret with this character.
Once you’re done, go past him to the right and enter the Engraver Shed. Speak to the Engraver and show him the ring. He will tell you to read the archives for August 18, 1929 and tells us that it’s a good thing that Mr. Flat Bottom has his job to keep him busy. Any guesses as to who Mr. Flat Bottom is and what his job might be now?
Final Visit to the Hemlock Herald
Go back into the cemetery and click “H” to head back to the main gate. Run to Main Street, enter the Hemlock Herald, and run down to the Archives. Click the microfiche machine and spin the right handle many times until the display year reads 1929. The light will turn green, then click zoom. What’s this? Flatbottom is the magistrate! Did you guess it before?
Catching Flatbottom the Magistrate
Now that we know who is behind everything, we’d better set everything straight! Head back to Cemetery Lot “A”. Go left and jump to the top to where the grave isn’t sealed. Click it to push it open and climb down the ladder. We’d love to tell you how to chase Flatbottom through the maze, but it changes every time. What you have to do is follow the rose petals each time you come to a choice on which way to go. If the door you are looking at has no rose petals in front of it, it is the wrong door. Continue following the rose petals and you’ll finally come to a ladder with rose petals and candles. Climb up the ladder and you’ll catch up with the cloaked spirit! Be careful!
All of a sudden the spirit sneezes — but ghosts don’t sneeze!! Chase after the cloaked figure up to the grave with the flowers on it and you’ll throw the salt in his eyes. The cloaked spirit is the Magistrate after all! You’ll accuse him about the forged note to Valiant and he will admit to trying to woo Fiona, revealing that this is Fiona’s grave! Finally, all of the souls can rest now the he has confessed, and Fiona can go with her true love Valiant!

Ghost Story Island Secrets
- If you click on the typewriter at the Hemlock Herald, it will begin typing a letter on its own.
- If you click on the file cabinets at the Hemlock Herald, papers will fly out like ghosts.
- If you click the “Open a New Account, Get a New Toaster” sign, your avatar will say “I’m really not interested”.
- Clicking the dog in the Bank Vault will make him say “ruff ruff!”
- If you click the light switch in the Gingerbread house, you can turn the light on and off.
- If you click the owl above the loony Poptropican’s head in Cemetery Lot B, it will hoot. He will think it’s a ghost and say “Woah there it is again!”
- You can put on the “ghost glasses” from the Ghost trinkets seller between the Hemlock Herald and the Bank.
- When you enter the abandoned house through the cellar, you can click on a sheet that looks like a ghost about halfway down, but it turns out to just be a doll.
